Osteoporosis is a complaint in which bones, if the individual losing their density. They beapproach porous and less strong. This makes the bones weak and fragile causing an increased risk of fractures elementicularly of the hip, wrist and spine.
United States, nearly 40 million citizens is at risk of contracting the complaint or who already have. Although this condition can affect men and women, it is more general among women especially post-menopause. While 80% of people with osteoporosis are women, nearly 80% of women over 65 suffer from this condition. It was found that more than 11 / 2 million cases of fractures by reason of osteoporosis and 15 billion dollars are spent in the treatment of fractures.
Men are also at risk of contracting this complaint. Nearly 1.5 million men have osteoporosis, while nearly 3.5 million are at risk of contracting this complaint.
To maintain bone density, we should have a sufficient inreceive of calcium and other minerals. The system must be healthy enough to pbaruce sufficient amounts of estrogen in women and testosterone in men respectively. In addition, vitamin D is essential for proper absorption of calcium in the system. From 30 years and beyond, the bones of the system tend to lose their density. If nutritional inreceive is inadequate or if the system is unable to settle the minerals into the bones, they tend to weaken. This ultimately leads to osteoporosis.
Work is ongoing to better means available to detect early, treat and prevent the onset of osteoporosis.
